Melissa Margulies is a shareholder in the Industrial and Consumer Product Liability Practice Group in the Philadelphia office of Lavin O’Neil Ricci Cedrone & DiSipio. She concentrates her practice in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries as well as professional liability.
In 20 years of practice as a trial attorney, Ms. Margulies has tried cases before juries in state and federal courts. She currently supervises and manages complex product liability, professional liability and medical device lawsuits.
Before joining the Lavin firm, Ms. Margulies was Senior Corporate Counsel at Quest Diagnostics, the world's leading provider of diagnostic testing. In that role, Ms. Margulies managed the Company's litigation, including professional liability and commercial litigation as well as government investigations. She hired and managed all outside counsel who handled the litigation, throughout the United States. Ms. Margulies counseled clients at the executive and operational levels on litigation and compliance matters. Also, she created and implemented numerous litigation-related policies and procedures that standardized practices and reduced costs.
In her practice, Ms. Margulies uses her in-house experience to offer proactive risk management advice to her clients. Ms. Margulies assists her clients in the early evaluation of the merits of each claim. Together, Ms. Margulies and her clients work on a goal-oriented, cost effective approach to the litigation.
Ms. Margulies graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, in anthropology, from Franklin & Marshall College. She earned her Juris Doctor from the Temple University Beasley School of Law in Philadelphia, PA, where she served on the Moot Court Board. Following graduation, Ms. Margulies was an assistant district attorney in the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office. She has been an adjunct professor in the Temple University Beasley School of Law Trial Advocacy Program.
Ms. Margulies is admitted to all state courts in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the District Courts of New Jersey.
Ms. Margulies is a member of the Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Bar Associations; DRI, American Health Lawyers and the National Association of Women Lawyers. Within the Lavin firm, Ms. Margulies leads the firm’s business development committee and serves on the firm’s hiring and diversity committees.
Personal
In her spare time, Ms. Margulies enjoys reading historical fiction. She recently completed her first sprint distance triathlon.
